Pin For Later

Did you set a goal but you got off track? I promise you today is better late than never to start again. Let’s dust ourselves off and try again. I not only want to encourage you to try again, but also to write down your goals. Many of us verbalize changes that we would like to make. But, it is time that we take it just a step further.

Benefits of Writing Your Goals Down: Here’s 3!

There are a few studies that suggest writing down your goals ensures greater potential for success.  And, I want to further provide you with three additional reasons why this critical step is important. I have found myself too many times with failed attempts at my goals. Or, not seeing the progress that I want to see. However, I have also seen a transformation in not giving up over this past year. And, part of this is due to writing my goals and dreams down.

So, here are three benefits of writing your goals down and reasons why I am encouraging you to do the same.

  • God’s Word encourages us to

  • Writing will hold you accountable

  • You will be able to see your progress

GOD’S WORD ENCOURAGES US TO WRITE THE VISION

There are several instances in God’s word that let us know to have your vision on something tangible. God instructed many Bible heroes to write down instruction and vision. Does Moses ring a bell? He had Moses to write the 10 commandments. God tells Jeremiah to write it down.

One scripture that I have heard often when it comes to goals is Habakkuk 2:2

“Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it. (NIV)

God instructs Habakkuk to write it down. When God has given us a dream or goal to accomplish, we need to make sure that we remember it. Better yet, we want to understand it. I have had numerous dreams in the past that were truly vivid and I felt that God was speaking. However, I would sometimes wait before I would write the dream down. When, I would try to recall that dream I would forget details and get things mixed up. I was left with regret that I didn’t write it down sooner.

This is why it is so important that we choose to write out God instructed goals. And, it must be clear for us, before we can ever think about communicating it with others.

Two other Verses to Consider are Proverbs 29:18

“Where there is no vision, the people are unrestrained, But happy is he who keeps the law.” (NIV)

and Proverbs 21:5

“The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty.”

I am believing that God will give us the tools and the instruction we need for our goals.

Accountability partners are great to help you meet your goals, but, you also need to belief in yourself, first and foremost.

ACCOUNTABILITY

I am big on accountability. When you have a great support system in friends, family or just others with like minded goals, it always help to keep you accountable. However, there will be days where you will be the only person believing in what you are doing. You have to be willing to go all in and bet on yourself. The days that I want to quit, I like to look back at my written goals. It always gives me a boost to keep pushing one more day.

SEE PROGRESSION

When we are trying to change our lives, they often require teeny, weeny steps. It can look like we are not progressing at all. Yet, if you have your goals outlined, then you might be surprised at yourself.

As I have dedicated myself to blogging this year, there have been PLENTY of days that I wanted to throw in the towel. Or, I would frequently ask myself and God, “Now, why am I doing this?”. However, I try to go back through my journal at least once a month. I wrote down my blogging goal and reasons for beginning this journey in my notebook. When I am able to see how far I’ve come, it gives me a little more pep in my step. Plus, I am even more motivated to move to the next level.
